Create A Toy Constructed Of Feather dusters

Use a cheap, dollar-store feather duster to make a doll.

You can find all the materials for making a doll out of a feather duster in a dollar store. In fact, you probably have many of the materials lying around the house leftover from other craft projects. Making feather duster dolls is a quick, easy project for whiny kids trapped inside on a rainy day. This is a wonderful party activity for young kids, too. In addition, kids can use their feather duster dolls as puppets after they make them to use their imagination in creating performance art.

Instructions

1. Remove pricing stickers or tags from a new feather duster. Cheap feather dusters that are made of synthetic fibers are fine. You do not have to use dusters with real feathers, although these work great, too.

2. Decide whether the feather part of the duster will be the hair or a skirt. If it will be hair, the part of the duster holding the feathers will be the head. If it is a skirt, the head will be on the opposite end of the handle.

3. Glue a pair of craft eyes on the part of the duster you determined to be a head. Movable "googley" eyes are good for this.

4. Glue on a small craft pom-pom below the eyes for a nose.

5. Draw a mouth under the nose with a permanent marker.

6. Fold a long craft pipe cleaner in half and open it back up. Place the creased part around the handle of the duster and twist it around the handle twice. It forms the two arms. If you are using the feather part as hair, twist another pipe cleaner around the bottom of the handle for a pair of legs.

7. Glue several strands of yarn on the handle above the eyes for hair if you use the duster part for a skirt. The yarn forms the hair of the duster doll.

8. Add stickers or draw on the doll made out of the duster with markers. Decorate it any way you like. Your doll is now finished. Put on puppet shows with it. Change the position of the arms and legs to show what the character is doing or feeling.
