Placed On A Birdcage Veil

Birdcage veils can be worn with or without a hat or fascinator.

With the surge of reverence for vintage fashion, many women are incorporating old-fashioned looks into their contemporary wardrobes. Wedding looks are getting a vintage refresher too, with many brides vying for the delicate styles of the past. However, some of these vintage fashions, such as the birdcage veil, are not easily worn by today's women. Luckily, this is simply because they did not grow up wearing them.

Instructions

1. Slide a headband onto your head, and remember where it sits comfortably. Your headband line -- usually about 2 1/2 inches from your hairline -- is the same place where your birdcage veil's comb will slide in. These veils are usually worn with the comb just above the left eye.

2. Style your hair the way that you intend to wear it, when the veil is on. The veil is the final addition to your hairstyle, so it's important that everything else be completed in advance. Otherwise, hair products can lead to a sticky or discolored veil.

3. Turn the comb, so that it runs parallel to the curve of your head and ensure that the teeth of the comb are pointing away from your face when you hold the veil in front of you.

4. Slide the comb forward into your hair with the teeth pointing at your hairline. Pushing the comb back into your hair will encourage it to fall out and reduce the veil's volume.

5. Flip the veil's netting forward and secure the sides with the bobby pins. Ensure that the pins are hidden by your hair, so that they don't distract from your overall style.

6. Slide your fascinator into the hair, just to the side of the comb. Though the fascinator is optional, it works to break up the hard line where the veil meets your hair while adding a bit of panache.
