Info On Flamingo Bird'S Habitat

The five species of flamingo inhabit very similar habitats all around the world, straining through the water to find small fish and crustaceans to eat. Discover all the wild places where these flamingo species are located.


Caribbean Flamingo


The Caribbean Flamingo, or Phoenicopterus ruber ruber, lives in salty lagoons, coastal/inland shallow lakes, and mud flats of the Northern and Southern islands in the Caribbean Sea, the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and parts of northern South America.


Greater Flamingo


The Greater Flamingo, or Phoenicopterus ruber roseus, lives near streams, shallow salty lakes and alkaline lakes of northeastern, western, and southern Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, India and the Middle East.


Chilean Flamingo


The Chilean Flamingo, or Phoenicopterus chilensis, lives in salty or alkaline lakes or vegetation-free lagoons, mangrove swamps, tidal regions, and sandy islands of Central Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina.


Lesser Flamingo


The Lesser Flamingo, or Phoeniconaias minor, lives in alkaline lakes and salty flood plains of Spain, Oman, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Yemen, Iran and throughout Africa.


Andean Flamingo


The Andean Flamingo, or Phoenicoparrus andinus, lives in high-altitude, salty or alkaline lakes of Argentina, Bolivia, Peru and Chile.
