Create A Fascinator Having A Veil

Make a Fascinator With a Veil

Bridal fascinators are becoming widely available at high-end salons and bridal boutiques, but making one yourself can add a customized detail to your wedding day look and will usually be less expensive than buying one in store. For a traditional feel, we will work with white flowers and a birdcage veil, but feel free to add in your wedding colors or other accents into the materials.

Instructions

Preparing the Birdcage Veil

1. Glue one end of the ribbon to one side of the base of the comb.

2. Wrap the rest of the ribbon around the base of the comb by looping between the teeth. Glue to the other end. The whole comb base should be wrapped, providing a foundation to glue or sew other materials on to.

3. Sew one corner of the netting to the ribbon-covered comb base.

4. Thread in and out along the netting edge, beginning from the sewn corner along three of four edges. Leave only one finished edge unwoven. French netting will have a finished edge when you buy it, resulting in a delicate zig-zag border that should go across the face.

5. Pull both ends of the woven thread to scrunch the netting into the desired shape. Play with the shape until satisfied with the result.

6. Sew the scrunched end of the netting onto the ribbon comb base, ensuring that the netting faces forward, in the same direction as the comb teeth.

Creating the Fascinator

7. Glue the base of the feathers onto the comb, over the base of the veil. The feathers should face outward, away from the netting. Let this layer dry before applying the final layer.

8. Arrange flowers into a desired position on top of the base of the feathers. A single large flower may stand alone. Medium flowers can be arranged in a row. Small flowers can be used for filling in spaces.

9. Glue flowers into place over the feathers and let the layer dry.
