Make a Feather Hair Clip
Feather hair clips draw the eye upward to your hair and can add a fun, unexpected twist to an otherwise typical hairstyle. Pre-made feather hair clips can be purchased in most areas where women's accessories are sold, but they can be costly--ranging from $15 to $50 depending on how extravagant they are. With a few minutes and the right tools, you can make your own feather hair clips for a fraction of the cost. In addition, you can personalize the clips to fit your own taste.
Instructions
1. Open the clip and place it on a table. Imagine how you would like the clip to look before you begin working. Lay out the materials so you can reach them easily.
2. Put a small amount of fray check onto the end of the ribbon. Allow to dry for a minute or two.
3. Place a small dot of glue on the underside of the clip, closest to the joined edge and away from the opening. Hold the end of the ribbon onto the dot of glue for a minute or two, then let dry for an hour.
4. Wrap the ribbon around the top to conceal the metal parts. Overlap the ribbon as you wrap. Place a small dot of glue on the end of the clip nearest the opening. Cut the ribbon, apply fray check to the end of it, and hold the end in place on the glue spot until dry--about two hours.
5. Close the clip. Apply a thin strip of glue onto the top of the clip. Apply a feather. Layer another strip of glue and place the second feather over the top of the quill of the first. Repeat until the entire clip as been covered.
6. Glue the buttons or decorative jewelry of your choosing over the top of the last quill to hide the end and to add additional pizazz to your clip.
