Remove Blood Stains From Cotton Sheets
Blood stains are surprisingly common. Knowing remove these stains will help you preserve your bedding. Don't be intimidated and discard bloodstained items. As with any stain, your chance of success is greater if you act quickly. The most important thing to remember about blood stains is to use cold water only while treating and laundering. Never use warm or hot water or you will set the stain permanently. Tumble drying or ironing will also set the blood stain, so be sure the stain has been entirely removed before drying.

Removing Bloodstains from Sheets
1. Hold the soiled portion of the sheet under cold running water to remove as much of the stain as possible.
2. Soak the item for 15 minutes in a solution of 1 qt. of water, 1/2 tsp. of dishwashing detergent and 1 tbsp. of ammonia. Rub the stained area gently to dislodge the blood. Soak an additional 15 minutes and rinse with cold water.
3. Wash as normal in the cold-water cycle.
4. Dampen the area with 3-percent hydrogen peroxide and let it sit for 15 minutes if blood stains remain.
5. Rinse immediately with cold water and launder as usual.
