Victorian-style homes are elegant.
Victorian homes salute the days of old when grandeur, grace and elegance were the norm. Enhance this old-world style by continuing the theme with Christmas décor. Remember to choose decorations with an understated elegance in mind, in order to best give your home a Victorian grace and charm.
Instructions
1. Decide on a color theme for your Christmas decorations. Choose colors such as muted silver and gold, burgundy, mauve, cream and soft pastel shades of green or blue that will enhance the Victorian elegance in your home.
2. Decorate mantles with boughs of greenery. Embellish the greenery by placing tall white pillar candles in between the leaves or by stringing garlands of pearls amid the greenery.
3. Add ornaments to the Christmas tree, such as peacock feathers or bird ornaments with feathers, gold cherubs or angels made of white-lace handkerchiefs. Ball ornaments covered in sparkly white paint or a crocheted white material will add a touch of simplicity to the tree.
4. Use lots of ribbons in your color scheme to decorate garlands wrapped around your stairway or draped over your doorways.
5. Incorporate silk roses in your decorations. Colors such as cranberry, burgundy, cream or pale pink will look lovely in your Victorian-style home. You can use a silk-rose table arrangement or place individual silk roses on your Christmas tree to use as additional embellishment.
6. Decorate the dining-room table with a table runner that has tassels at each end. Tassels were prominent in the Victorian era, and you can incorporate them in many ways as Christmas decorations. Decorative tassels can be draped over lamp shades or doorknobs. Miniature tassels can adorn your Christmas tree.
7. Use twinkle white lights throughout your home and on the Christmas tree.
8. Use doilies and embroidered white or cream linens for your coffee or end tables and the napkins on your dining-room table.
