Embellish the nails with freehand designs.
Butterflies for springtime, delicate flowers for summer weddings and decorated evergreens for the winter holidays are some of the designs that embellish newly manicured fingers and toes as they leave the nail salon. Though nail art may be one of the least expensive services for a manicurist to perform, many fetch a pretty penny for nail designs by charging $5 and up per nail for some designs. However, with some basic tools, patience and artistic flair, you can practice applying freehand nail designs to your own nails.
Instructions
1. Spread a piece of paper towel on the work surface to protect it from paint splashes. You can also use the paper towel to blot excess paint from the brush as you work.
2. Prepare the nails for designs by applying two fresh coats of enamel. Allow the polish to dry completely so that you have a smooth surface to start.
3. Draw a flower design by using a marbling tool to create the petals. A marbling tool has a metal ball-point tip. Lightly dip the tip of the tool into acrylic paint. Tap dots of paint on the nail plate in the shape of a circle. Five individual dots make an aesthetically pleasing flower. However, experiment to find the design that you like. Finish with a dot of paint in a complimentary color in the center. Use a fine, pointy tip brush dipped in green paint to draw the stem and leaves of the flower.
4. Use a striper brush to draw designs with lines and stripes. A striper brush has seven or eight long bristles. Dip the brush into acrylic paint. Gently place the brush on the nail and pull it, using a steady hand. If you have picked up too much paint with the brush, gently dab it on the paper towel before continuing. Use your imagination to create the lines and scrolls.
5. Coat the nails with a topcoat to protect the design from chipping and peeling.
