Children'S Costumes With Wings

Bring out your child's unique magic with a winged costume

For some young children, every day is Halloween. Give wings to a child who has a flair for dressing up and you'll win ecstatic hugs and smiles. Your reward also lies in seeing a tiny butterfly, fairy, or bumblebee emerge from the bedroom to greet you in the morning, and in the photos of your costumed child you'll treasure for years to come.

Bumblebee

Sewing moms or dads can easily give their little honey a costume to buzz about. Whip up a top made of striped black and yellow fabric and a yellow tulle skirt. Some pipe cleaners attached to a hairband make fun antennae. Complete the outfit with a pair of yellow wings. You'll get a swarm of compliments from other admiring parents. If sewing skills aren't in your repertoire, find a costume at your local costume or children's clothing store.

Fairy

Fairies come in all colors, so choose your tiny tot's favorite colors of the rainbow to make (or custom order) a unique, personalized costume. Your child can become a green leaf fairy, a pink rose fairy, a red strawberry fairy, a blue river fairy or whatever else the two of you dream up together. Let your imagination soar when creating costume wings--and embellish them with maribou, rhinestones, glitter or feathers. The wing shape for a fairy may recall that of dragonflies, butterflies or the dramatic downward swoop of a luna month. Add a sparkly wand for your child to wave and she'll cast a magic spell of happiness over the whole house.

Butterfly

While other winged costumes require special clothing to create the proper effect, a butterfly costume can build on clothing already in the child's closet. Either a black leotard, or a pair of black pants paired with a top of the same color gives you the beginning for this quick and easy costume. A headband and pipe cleaners make the butterfly antennae. You can let nature inspire you, creating wings that mimic an real butterfly like the orange and black monarch, the red painted lady or the tropical violet morpho.

Angel

Your daughter may not always act like an angel, but she will look adorable dressed as one. A white dress and birdlike white wings will make a heavenly costume she'll love to wear.
