Design a church hat that says a little about your personality.
Church hats are a tradition in many African-American Christian churches. You can design a church hat that is elaborately adorned with feathers, flowers and ribbons, or you might keep it simple with only a bow or some lace. The church hat is the finishing touch to a woman's "Sunday best" outfit. Women who wear church hats often have a large collection, wearing dark hats in the winter and light-colored hats in the spring and summer months.
Instructions
1. Decide if you want the bow and decorations on the front, back or side of the hat. Place a drop of hot glue on the hat near the brim. Press the ribbon against the hot glue about 8 inches from one end of the ribbon.
2. Place a drop of hot glue on the hat about every 2 inches. Continue around the hat until the ribbon is secure. Leave the long ends of the ribbon hanging free.
3. Tie the ribbon into a big bow. Glue the edges of the ribbon to the hat under the bow. Glue the bow to the hat by placing a drop of hot glue on the back of the bow and pressing it to the hat.
4. Arrange feathers and silk flowers on the hat. Stick the stems of the flowers and feathers behind the ribbon to hold them in place while you arrange the decorations. Use scissors to trim off excess shafts from the feathers. Use the wire cutters to trim off excess plastic shaft from the silk flowers.
5. Place a drop of hot glue on each decoration and secure it to the hat behind the ribbon. Remove a few flowers from their stems and glue them directly onto the ribbon. Add as many flowers and feathers as you want to finish your hat.
