Children'S Bible Crafts For Thanksgiving

Children's Thanksgiving crafts

Crafts can be a wonderful way to help children understand why we celebrate Thanksgiving every year. Not only do children enjoy cutting, pasting and creating, but the creative process allows time for discussion and reflection on what they have learned.

Bible Stories and Memory Verses

Many Bible stories can be used to illustrate the concept of thanksgiving. In the Old Testament, Moses and his people were encouraged to be thankful when the Lord sent manna and quail for them to eat. Kind David used music and poetry in the book of Psalms to express thanks throughout his life. In the New Testament, the story of the 10 lepers showed how important thanksgiving was to Jesus. Students can print verses from these stories or others at Bible Gateway and decorate them with various craft supplies.

Lap Books

Lap books combine book learning and crafts to create a project that children can share or refer back to at any time. At Currclick, you can download an 84-page Lap Book called, 25 Days of Thanksgiving. This colorful lap book includes a variety of Bible-based activities, scripture, writing activities and puzzles to help students apply Biblical principles of thanksgiving to their own lives.

Turkey Nature Craft

Adults can encourage children to be thankful, for the things God creates, by exploring nature with them. This craft uses materials found outdoors. First collect several brightly colored autumn leaves; maple or oak work very well. Next, find a pine cone that is two to three inches long. Indoors, arrange the leaves in a semi-circle shape on to a paper plate or a piece of construction paper. These will be the turkey's feathers. Using a hot glue gun, glue the pine cone in the center of the leaves, in a vertical direction. This will be the turkey's head. Glue on googly eyes and a waddle and you have a funny Thanksgiving turkey.

Cornucopia Craft

At Christian Preschool Printables, teachers or parents can download templates for a cornucopia and food items to accompany it. After a discussion, children can print the things for which they are thankful, on the fruit and vegetables, and paste them on to the cornucopia.
