Clean Dust From The Computer Tower

Dust can build up inside a computer affecting its performance

Over time, dust can build up inside a computer and can lead to overheating. Dust usually accumulates around the fan intake, where air is sucked into the computer from the room. This kind of dust build-up can reduce the efficiency of the fan and the computer's ability to cool itself properly. Compressed air is the best method of removing dust, because it does not cause a build-up of static electricity like a vacuum cleaner or feather duster. Cleaning your computer tower of dust is a relatively easy task which should take no longer than half an hour.

Instructions

1. Turn off and unplug your computer from the electrical supply. Use the screwdrivers to unscrew the casing surrounding the tower of the computer and remove the cover.

2. Look without touching around the inside of the computer to see where dust has built up. It is most likely to be around the fan but can cover any of the internal components.

3. Spray the can of compressed air away from the computer to clear any moisture build-up from the can. Direct the compressed air at the areas that require cleaning while trying to avoid making contact with any components. Try to keep the can air as upright as possible to prevent any potential liquid discharge from the can.

4. Replace the cover and screw it back in to place. Plug your computer back in and turn it on. If the computer is running cooler as a result of less dust you may notice a reduction in noise from the fans as well as improved performance.
