Take Care Of Ivory Down Dwarf Pampas Grass

Ivory Feathers dwarf pampas grass is a popular type of ornamental grass for gardeners to plant in areas of their landscape to add interesting focal points. The bright-white plumes of this grass not only break up areas of green, but also contribute contrasting textures. In addition, you can plant your Ivory Feathers dwarf pampas grass in areas of the yard that experience drought. This grass will also help with erosion on hillsides. It is important to follow the growing requirements of this ornamental grass, to maintain its health and vigor.

Instructions

1. Till the first 6 inches of topsoil on your planting location. Keep in mind that you need to space your Ivory Feathers dwarf pampas grass at least 10 inches apart. Choose a time in the early spring or in the early fall to plant your ornamental grass. Avoid planting in the heat of the summer or in the winter, because the newly planted grass is susceptible to frosts.

2. Add 1 lb. 10-10-10 fertilizer per 100 square feet and work it into the soil with a tiller.

3. Dig a hole that is twice as wide as the bottom of the container holding your pampas grass and as deep as the container. Place the plant inside the hole and pack soil around the base.

4. Water thoroughly but do not oversaturate the soil. Keep the Ivory Feathers dwarf pampas grass moist, especially through the summer months during its first year. After its first year, the plant is more drought tolerant. Spread 3 to 4 inches of mulch from the base of the ornamental grass out to the drip line.

5. Prune your ornamental grass with bypass shears if you see any discolored stems. Pick a time in the winter to prune off damaged or diseased portions of the plant.
