Draw Wings

Learning to draw wings can help your talent soar.

Wings represent beauty, grace and power. Wings can be found on real and mythical creatures including birds, dragons and Pegasus. Wings are always the appendage of the animal or person they are attached to and must be drawn in that fashion. The ability to master the look of wings can make you seem like a professional artist.

Instructions

1. Draw the skeleton of the wing. The skeleton of the wing should be drawn to reflect the position you would like the wing to rest. Draw a stretched-out "V" shape connected to an inverted "V" shape. The shape should resemble a stretched-out chicken wing.

2. Draw the muscle over the skeleton. The muscle should look simple, like the muscle on your arm. Draw an arch above the skeleton and below the skeleton closest to the shoulder. The end of the wing muscle should have a "V"-shaped tip.

3. Sketch a layer of feathers over the muscle. The wings closer to the shoulder should be shorter than the feathers towards the outer end of the wing.

4. Sketch a second layer of wings beneath the first layer. These wings should be longer at the edge than the first layer.

5. Draw the third layer of feathers, making the edges the longest of all the feathers.

6. Erase the skeleton of the wing and define the lines of your sketch to complete the look of the wings.
