Raven And Crow Crafts

Crows and ravens are often considered to be ominous signs.

Crows and ravens are symbols of death in many cultures, due to their natures as scavengers and because of their black coloring. However, these same scavenger habits are an important part of ecosystems all around the world. Ravens and crows feature in many legends, stories and poems, making them interesting subjects for crafts.

Crow Paper Cup

Paint a plastic or Styrofoam cup black. Using orange construction paper, cut out a small heart shape for the feet and a small triangle for the beak. Tape the point of the heart shape to the bottom of the cup so that the rounded sides appear from underneath the cup as "feet." Draw three talons using a black marker on the "feet." Glue the beak and two wiggle eyes to the front of the cup. You can also glue black feathers or real crow feathers to the top of the cup.

Crow With Movable Wings

Draw and cut out two circles from black construction paper. The size of the circles will determine the size of your crow. Cut out a small triangle and two crow legs from orange construction paper. The legs should resemble a line with three branches extending from the bottom. Glue the feet to the bottom of one of the circles and the triangle in the middle for the beak. Glue wiggle eyes above the beak. Punch two holes a few inches apart at the upper corners of the circle. Cut the other circle in half and attach the half circles, flat side up, to the whole circle using paper fasteners. The wings of the crow can be manipulated to move up and down.

Hand Print and Footprint Raven

Trace two hands and one foot on a piece of black construction paper with chalk so that you can see the line. Make sure that the fingers are spread while tracing the hands. Cut out the hands and foot shapes. Cut a triangle beak and bird feet from a piece of orange construction paper. Cut out a black circle for the head and glue on the beak and wiggle eyes. Position the footprint with the heel at the top. Glue the cutout hand prints to the middle of each side of the footprint. Glue the raven head to the heel of the footprint and the legs to the toe-end of the footprint.

Raven Paper Bag Puppet

Paint a paper bag black or use a black gift bag. Draw outspread wings on black construction paper and cut them out. Cut a triangle from orange construction paper and glue it to the bottom flap of the paper bag, along with wiggle eyes. Glue the wings to the back of each side of the paper bag. Finish the craft by gluing feathers above the eyes. You can also glue small feathers on the wings, if you wish.
