A tiara makes a lovely headpiece.
If your wedding gown doesn't come with a matching veil or headpiece, and you want one, you could end up spending time going from one bridal boutique to another in an attempt to find the right one. Buying the headpiece is another cost added to your budget, which might already be strained from all the costs associated with a wedding. Making your own headpiece allows you to cut down on costs and make it look the way you want.
Clip-On Headpieces
Small bridal headpieces can make a large statement. Feathers, pearls and rhinestones glued to a piece of fabric-covered cardboard make a lovely facinator headpiece. Glue a large hair clip to the bottom and clip it off to the side at the top of your head. A small veil covering one eye, or even the top half of your face is reminiscent of small hats worn in the 1940s. This is a lovely headpiece that matches a simple sheaf or mermaid dress. White ostrich feathers create a look of purity, while peacock feathers add color and sophistication.
Tiara Headpieces
Costume jewelry tiaras are available in costume jewelry stores and there is a wide variety found online. The price range is great and you can find some beautiful ones that are inexpensive. From a distance, no one will know how much you paid for one. It's easy to add some tulle to the tiara. Add several layers to create a full headpiece to complement a dress with a cathedral-length train. For a more subdued statement, cut one or two layers of shorter tulle. Sew the tulle onto the veil using a needle and thread. This is one of the least complicated headpiece crafts you can make.
Headband
An inexpensive headband can turn into a lovely headpiece with the addition of a few items. Cover a wide headband with a fabric that matches your dress, using glue to hold it in place. Cover the headband with pearls, rhinestones or both. A cluster of delicate ostrich feathers on one side with a large rhinestone in the middle will add a glamorous touch to any type of wedding gown. Glue tulle to the underside of the headband, if you'd like a traditional long white veil. Glue a smaller one on top of the longer pieces to bring forward and cover your face for that walk down the aisle. Irish lace can be used instead of tulle for a fabulous bridal headpiece.
Flowers
Flowers surrounding your face on your wedding day add a special type of innocent beauty to a bride. Matching silk flowers to your bridal bouquet allows you to make your headpiece in advance. Creating a fresh floral bridal headpiece craft isn't something that you want to do the morning of your wedding. Cover a large hair comb or wide headband with silk flowers, or glue a fabric-covered piece of cardboard to a large hair clip and glue silk flowers to that. Add tulle to this craft also. Make a garland headpiece with floral wire. Place the flowers against the wire and wrap the ends with floral wire and floral tape. Hot glue tulle or lace to the bottom of the garland. A smaller garland can be made to wrap around a bun.
