Make Headbands For Dance Costumes

Feathers of all shapes, sizes and colors can be used to create beautiful headbands for dance costumes.

Headbands for dance costumes can be expensive at specialty stores, but they are cheap, easy and fun to make at home. Headbands are a highly customizable craft project, and different materials such as feathers, gemstones, bows and ribbons can alter the look drastically. This enables you to create truly one-of-a-kind dance pieces. The materials are readily available at most craft stores, so a solo dancer or an entire dance troupe can feel free to experiment with many different design possibilities.

Instructions

1. Cut out a piece of fabric to the size you would like your feather design to be. Take into account the type of dancing and your costume theme when choosing a size.

2. Using an iron is the easiest way to bond fusible interface to fabric.

Iron the fabric to the fusible interfacing as indicated by the instructions. Check the bond by attempting to peel the layers apart. If the bond is not secure, apply more heat with the iron.

3. Cut and arrange your feathers on the fabric so that all the plumes meet at the same spot on the fabric, and glue them in place using the glue gun.

4. A decorative button is a great way to hide glue bonds, giving your project a professional look.

Glue the button or plastic gemstone in place to cover the area where the plumes meet. This aesthetic step adds an impression of professionalism to your project. The less glue that shows on your design, the better. Allow glue to dry completely.

5. Apply a line of glue on the backside of your fabric and feather design. Secure to the headband and hold it in place while the glue cools. Allow to dry completely.
