Create A Construction Paper Black Crow

Crows are entirely black, but your construction paper crow may have an orange beak.

Mythology and folklore often feature animals as key characters, especially if the legends have tribal origins. The crow in particular is often portrayed as a wise trickster who manipulates the other characters into doing what he wants. Though his actions are often for the greater good, crows can also be selfish. When teaching students or your children these stories, giving them a follow-up craft will help cement the events in their minds. Construction paper crows require few tools and make appropriate autumn windowsill decorations.

Instructions

1. Draw a large teardrop shape and a fist-sized circle on a piece of black construction paper. Cut out both shapes. Turn the teardrop so the point points toward you. Glue the circle to the rounded end of the teardrop. This is the crow's body.

2. Trace around your hand three times on a second piece of construction paper. Cut out the hands. Glue one to the left side of the crow's body, one to the right side, and one to the point of the teardrop. These are the crow's wings and tail feathers.

3. Cut a triangle from a piece of orange construction paper. Glue it to the round circle as the crow's beak. Glue two wiggle eyes above the beak. Allow the entire crow to dry for about an hour.

4. Flip the crow over. Glue a paper cup to the middle of the crow's back, making sure the top of the cup points toward the crow's head. Let the glue dry for about an hour.

5. Set the bottom of the cup on a windowsill. Put some small stones in the cup to hold it in place. Your crow should look like it's hovering in front of the windowsill.
