A 6-year-old girl is energetic and enthusiastic about the world. She loves activities that help her be independent and use new-found skills in problem solving, math and reading. Her activities need to be short; she gets quickly bored with complex projects. When shopping for a 6-year-old girl, look for toys, games and activities that can be completed in 30 minutes or less and allow her to use her imagination and problem-solving skills.

Art and Craft Kits

Most 6-year-old girls love to try everything but do not have fine motor skills or patience to complete complex craft projects. Projects with one or two steps are best. Look for craft kits that allow them to embellish flip-flops, jewelry boxes, picture frames, hats, notebooks or other accessories with a variety of stickers, adhesive-backed jewels, fun foam shapes, feathers and other items.

Dolls

Many 6-year-old girls still like to play with dolls. Because their fine motor skills are not fully developed, young girls may become frustrated when trying to dress tiny (2- to 4-inch) dolls. Many 6-year-old girls like games that involve counting, simple reading and easy problem solving.
