Preventing stink bugs from coming in requires a little preparation.
Stink bugs are a potential problem as they try to get into homes for the winter or get out of homes during the spring. When threatened, disturbed or killed, the bugs release an unpleasant odor. The best way to avoid dealing with stink-bug stench is to prevent the pests from entering your house.
Instructions
1. Close any holes or small areas with screens to keep stink bugs from entering the house via openings. Stink bugs can enter through small cracks and crevices as well as unscreened or opened windows.
2. Spray insecticides around the exterior of your house, especially on the south and west sides. According to Rick Steinau, an exterminator, you should reapply the insecticide every seven to 10 days for it to remain effective against the insects. Read the specific instructions for the insecticide before applying it to your house.
3. Put sticky-glue board traps around windows or areas where stink bugs can enter.
4. Minimize light usage at night. Turn off the porch light or most of the house lights to decrease stink-bug infestation.
