Adding stuffing or feathers to a down coat can add warmth
Making a down coat puffier can add warmth and improve how the coat looks. Cutting into the coat in different places and adding extra down feathers or stuffing can easily complete this process. The number of cuts that will need to be made to the coat depends on its size and style.
Instructions
1. Turn the coat inside out.
2. Cut small, 2-inch slits into the chest and back area of the coat. The number of slits you cut depends on how big the coat is and how puffy you want to make it; the more slits you make, the puffier the coat will be. A child's coat, for example, will likely need about four slits.
3. Insert down feathers or generic stuffing into the slits. Use as much or as little as you like to get the desired effect.
4. Sew up the slits on the inside of the coat with a needle and thread. The thread should match the interior fabric of the coat. Knot the thread securely when you've finished closing the holes to ensure the extra stuffing won't come out.
5. Turn the coat right-side in and check to see if it has the desired puffiness. If not, repeat the steps and add more stuffing.
