Paper Plate Lion Mask

This project is ideal for younger children. Find paper plates with fluted edges. This will make an ideal outline for the lion's mane. Give your child crayons and also place a picture of lion next to her for reference. Your child can color the edges of the plate to represent the mane. Also have her draw a black nose and some whiskers. Cut out two holes where the eyes would be so your child can see. Take a craft stick and glue it on the back of the plate so your child can hold up her mask.

Brown Bag Birds

This craft is for a child who is fascinated by ostriches or emus. You will need a brown paper bag, half a paper plate, wiggly eyes, construction paper, pipe cleaners and a small, gray pom-pom. Tear the brown bag into small pieces and glue these pieces to half of the paper plate. This will be the bird's feathers. Cut out a beak with yellow or brown construction paper. Glue the beak and two wiggly eyes onto the grey pompom; this will be the bird's head. Use three brown or gray pipe cleaners as the neck and legs. The pipe cleaners can be glued or taped onto the plate. Attach the pom-pom to the pipe cleaner that is the neck of the bird.
