Craft Activities Using Apples For Kids

Apples can be edible decorations.

Apples have a distinctive shape and bright colors that attract a child's eye. While there are plenty of crafts that use the shape of the apple, fewer use the apple itself. For an easy, edible children's craft, you can show your child make edible turkeys for dessert and to decorate the table on Thanksgiving. Alternatively, let your child use the apple as a stamp to decorate bags, towels, aprons or even kitchen curtains.

Dessert Turkey

Using an apple for the turkey body, instruct your child to build the rest of the bird with marshmallows, raisins, candy corn and toothpicks. To make the tail feathers of his turkey, show your child skewer several dark raisins with a toothpick. Have him cap one end of the toothpick with a small marshmallow. Have your child make either five or seven toothpick kabobs depending on how big the apple is. Tell your child to stick the bare end of the toothpicks into one side of the apple in a fan shape. For the head, give your child a large marshmallow and a candy corn for the beak. Tell him to use two raisins as eyes and attach the head to the apple with another toothpick. He can even use longer bamboo skewers and gumdrops to make a peacock.

Printing With Apples

Have your child cut an apple in half and use it to stamp apple shapes on fabrics. Have your child pour some paint on a paper plate, dab the cut side of the apple into the paint, and dab it on a paper towel. Instruct your child to line up the apple where she wants her apple image and press it firmly onto the fabric. To add a bit more flair, change the color that she's painting with slightly by mixing in a bit of orange or brown. Your child can even use the other half of the apple and some green paint to create a green apple in the middle of all her red apples. After your child has stamped all the apples she wants on the fabric, have her paint in brown stems and a few green leaves.
