Create A Fascinator Mind Piece

Hats and fascinators are making a fashion statement once again.

Thanks to the popularity of the young royals, hats are back in fashion. Fascinators are small hair accessories that can take the place of a hat for garden and indoor events. Traditionally containing flowers, beads and feathers, a fascinator can be made to suit your hairstyle and outfit. Save money and create your own unique piece with items from your local art or craft store.

Instructions

1. Arrange the feathers into a spray that suits your style. Hold the feathers between your thumb and forefinger while you arrange them and hold them up to your head to see what they will look like.

2. Thread the needle and tie the thread to the bottom of your bouquet of feathers. Wind the thread around the bottom of the feathers. Start at the bottom and wind the thread up the feather shafts, piercing the shafts of larger feathers as you go. Ensure that all the feathers are secure before you tie the thread off at the top of the feather shafts.

3. Hold the comb on its side if you wish to wear the comb on the left side of your head; place the comb in front of you with the straight side on your right and the teeth facing left. Turn it over if you wish to wear it on the right side of your head.

4. Hold the spray of feathers so that they go up the straight side of the comb. Tie the thread to the bottom of the comb and thread it through the teeth and over the feather spray. Completely secure the feather shafts to the comb. Alternatively, you can glue the spray of feathers to the straight side of the comb.

5. Use the glue to attach plastic or dried flowers that match your feathers to the feather shafts. This will hide the thread and feather shafts.
