Trout are enticed by mini jigs.
Mini jigs are small lures used to bring trout into a frenzy of feeding activity. The jig has a long tail that causes the jig to move in a swirling pattern. As you bounce the jig up and down, this swirl mimics native hatches of nymphs, making the trout strike. Due to the ease of tying mini jigs, it is a simple matter to customize colors and jig head patterns based on the time of year, the river you fish and the current hatches taking place.
Instructions
1. Grip a hook with the vise , with the hook pointing down from the vise. Thread the forceps with the fly thread and wrap the hook shank with 12 to 16 coils of thread.
2. Add a dollop of epoxy to the end of the hook shank and to the jig head. Insert the jig head onto the end of the hook shank and hold it in position until the epoxy begins to hold. Let the epoxy dry.
3. Place a clump of marabou feathers (your choice of color) onto the back end of the hook, so the barb sticks out from the feather clump. Tie the marabou to the hook using the thread. Use the thread to make a collar that holds the fluffy tail along the hook shank.
4. Trim the feathers as needed to allow the barb to stick out from the feathers. Remove the hook from the vise. Tie the mini jig at the head eye to the fishing line.
