Dress For Any Western Homecoming Theme

You can dress like an Old West cowboy or take a modern spin on western dress for a western homecoming theme.

High schools and colleges host homecoming events each year that are usually associated with a football game to encourage school spirit. School alumni are encouraged to attend the homecoming in order to support their old school. Some homecomings might incorporate a theme that requires a costume. If your homecoming has a western theme, you can follow the Old West style of dress or wear modern western wear. You probably already have most of the items in your closet, but you can find pieces to wear at thrift stores and party shops as well.

Instructions

Men

1. Wear boot-cut denim jeans in a black or blue color. This is the staple of men's western attire.

2. Find a plaid or denim button-down shirt to complement the theme. You might even find a western-inspired rodeo shirt with snap buttons.

3. Include a pair of rugged cowboy boots to finish the base of your outfit. If you don't already have a pair, you may be able to find one at your local thrift store.

4. Wear a bolo tie around your neck if you want to resemble a modern-day rodeo cowboy. A handkerchief tied around the neck is ideal for the rugged cowboy look.

5. Complete the ensemble with a cowboy hat. Cowboy hats come in various sizes and shapes and can sometimes be found at second-hand stores and in costume shops if you don't want to pay full price for a new one.

6. Incorporate modern twists on the traditional western attire, such as a rugged or western-brand T-shirt, if you want an updated look. You don't have to look like you just stepped out of the pages of a history book.

7. Wear a long trench coat to resemble a western law enforcement officer, especially if the weather is cold.

Women

8. Wear a long, prairie-style skirt that falls to mid-calf. Any skirt of this length will work as long as it isn't form fitting, or you can make your own if you have some sewing skills.

9. Increase the volume and flow of the skirt by wearing a petticoat or crinoline underneath.

10. Choose a long-sleeved, button-down shirt for the top.

11. Wear cowboy boots with stockings. Make sure your skirt is short enough to show off your boots.

12. Wear a long, white apron to complete the look of a western prairie girl.

13. Wear a long satin dress to look like a western saloon girl. You can find these at any costume shop and at some second-hand stores.

14. Include a corset under the saloon girl dress. Stores that sell formal occasion dresses usually sell corsets as well.

15. Wear ankle boots with a heel or blank pumps with the dress.

16. Top off the saloon girl look with a fancy lace hat with feather embellishments.

17.Create a modern western look by pairing cowboy boots, jeans, a button-down western shirt and a cowboy hat. This is basically the same as men's dress, but women's western clothing is more form fitting.
