Decorate An Indian Peace Pipe

Decorate an Indian peace pipe for ceremonial flare.

A peace pipe is a prominent symbol in Native American culture. Whether you're in the Boy Scouts or looking to reaffirm your connection to your cultural roots, decorating your own peace pipe can be a significant experience. You only need a few scrap materials to make this project really come to life, but the end result will be quite rewarding.

Instructions

1. Wrap the pipe shaft with a strip of leather. Hot glue it in place. Cut thin strips that are an inch long of leather and tie or glue one end to the points of each feather.

2. Thread beads onto three thin strips of leather so they rest on the feather point. Leave enough leather at the end to tie or glue to the pipe. Attach the strips to the pipe, near the bowl.

3. Thread beads onto your string. Wrap the beaded string around the center of the pipe. Use different colors and shapes to add flare. Glue into place. Glue a tuft of fur near the center of the pipe, just after the wrapped beads.

4. Cut a long strip of leather a few inches longer than the pipe. Tie one end near the mouth end of the pipe and the other just behind the pipe's bowl. Add a bit of glue to secure, making a handle strap.
