Drawing a duck requires only a couple basic shapes.
Illustrating a duck is not complicated, and mostly requires a series of ovals. The head, body and beak are all varying incarnations of the same basic shape. You can draw a duck with or without legs and feet. If you illustrate the duck on the water, the legs and feet should not be visible. However, adding a pair of legs requires only a few additional steps. You may also add lines through the body, neck and wings, to indicate feathers of different colors.
Instructions
1. Draw a small oval for the head. Draw a larger, wider oval below and to the right, for the body. Connect the two ovals with a short, diagonal line.
2. Draw a wide, narrow oval beginning in the center of the head, then extending out left, past the circle. This will form the beak. Draw a little ridge at the top right of the beak and two dots near the ridge. Include a horizontal line, just above the bottom of the beak, to indicate the division between the upper and lower sections.
3. Draw a curved line down from the beak to the body. This will be the front of the duck's neck.
4. Draw a small curve between the head and body to connect them. This is the back of the neck and should resemble the letter C.
5. Draw a large, filled-in dark circle for an eye in the middle of the head, above to the right of the beak. Leave a small circle in the middle uncolored.
6. Add a half oval or swoosh symbol in the middle of the body to form the wing.
7. On the lower right area of the body, add a long, rounded M shape to make the tail.
8. Draw two sets of parallel lines that are close together and are coming straight down from the body. These will be the legs. Make each set of lines close together, but the two pairs should be spaced far apart.
9. Add two wide, rounded M shapes below the legs, but do not connect to them. Draw diagonal lines from each end of the M-shapes up to the legs to form the feet.
