Chicken Art Activities

Use plastic eggs like these to complete the chick napkin craft.

Chicken art activities can lend a springtime feel to your home. These crafts are fun to do with kids, and teachers will find that these chicken art activities work well for both home and school projects.

Chicken Pencil Topper

Pencil toppers add a bit of whimsy to your work. You can make this chicken pencil topper with just a few inexpensive supplies. To begin, you need a yellow pompom, two craft googly eyes, glue, pipe cleaners, orange craft foam and a clothespin. Cut out a beak, the comb and little sets of eyelashes slightly larger than the googly eyes. Prepare the pompom for gluing by spreading the pompom apart and putting a bit of glue in the area you’ve spread. Spread the glue with the end of a pencil. Press the comb into the glue and clamp the area tight with the clothespin until the glue is dry. Repeat the process to add the beak. Glue the foam eyelashes onto the pompom and the googly eyes onto those. Let the glue dry. Paste the pompom chicken head to the top of the pencil. Twirl colorful pipe cleaners around the pencil for the chicken’s neck.

Chicken Napkin Holder

This chicken napkin holder craft is a fun way to encourage kids to remember to use their napkin. The raw materials you’ll need for this project include a medium-sized plastic egg, pink and orange foam board, craft googly eyes, glue, scissors, a yellow feather and a paper napkin. Cut a set of chicken wings from the yellow foam board and some chicken feet from the orange one. Glue the feet to the egg so that the narrow, pointy end of the egg is stuck to the orange foam feet. Paste the wings on that same portion of the egg before the "break" where the egg opens. Add googly eyes to the top and glue the yellow feather on the top of the chicken’s head. Fold an orange napkin into a triangle. Place it inside the egg and close it, but leave two triangle ends out for the chicken’s mouth. Close the napkin into the egg. For an extra treat, place candies inside the egg along with the napkin.

Chick Sock Puppets

If you’re not sure what to do with all the single socks you have in your drawer, you can turn them into fun chick sock puppets. Remove the cuffs from the socks, but don’t throw them away. Cut them into wing shapes and sew them to the sides of the sock for the chicken’s wings. Add two craft googly eyes and a felt beak to make the chicken’s face. Glue yellow boa feathers to the top of the chick’s head. Insert orange pipe cleaners in front for the legs. Bend them and place a little glue on the inside of the sock to hold them in place.
