Make Feathered Hair Add-ons

Use a variety of colors in feathered hair accessories.

Wearing a feathered hair accessory definitely makes a statement. You do not have to purchase expensive feathered hair accessories when you can make them yourself. Personalization of your hair pieces will add to their allure. You only need a few items to create them. Let your imagination run wild. No one needs to know that you did not spend a fortune on your accessory, of course, unless you want to tell them.

Instructions

1. Cut two pieces of felt material, one piece large and one much smaller. Determine if you are making a large feathered hair accessory or a smaller, daintier one. This will depend on the feathers you are using for this project. Make sure to cut the large piece of felt larger than your barrette.

2. Glue the felt material onto the front of the barrette using your hot glue gun. Remember to lay your hot glue on a napkin, as the glue will leak.

3. Open the barrette and glue the other piece of felt material onto the underside of the first piece of felt. Make sure you do not cover the clasp of the barrette with the felt, as this will prevent the barrette from closing. Adding the back piece of felt will provide added stability to your barrette.

4. Cut the feathers to size. Determine how many large, medium and small feathers you will need.

5. Glue the feathers onto the felt material one by one. Arrange the feathers so that the hollow shaft of the feather is below the felt material. Place the glue onto the spine of the feather. Start with the largest feather and continue until you no longer can see any felt material.

6. Cut off the hollow shaft of the feathers so that they are even and do not overhang the felt. This will provide a clean, crisp edge for your feathered hair accessory.

7. Choose which jewels you want to use for embellishment on your feathered hair piece. Choose a variety of large and small jewels.

8. Glue the large jewel onto the bottom of the feathers. Try to center it. Once the large jewel is dry, proceed to the next step.

9. Glue on the remaining smaller jewels. Let the glue dry completely before wearing the feathered hair piece.
