Transform colorful silk flowers into ruffled layer pompoms.
Transform a vase full of old silk flowers into feminine pompom hair accessories. The pompoms are made from layers of petals that are assembled into the sphere-shaped pompom. Use a single color flower to make a uniform pompom or make a riotous hair accessory from layers of different colored petals. When you are finished, you can add the pompoms to any type of fabric hair accessory, such as hair elastics, headbands and fabric clips.
Instructions
1. Lay the silk flowers on your work table and take all of the pieces of each flower apart. Take out the stem and disassemble the plastic holding the layers of petals together.
2. Hold onto one petal and pin the bottom center. Sew a few stitches to keep the tight, pinched shape.
3. Lay the pinched petal on top of another petal and pinch the bottom petal around the top one. Sew a few stitches. Repeat until the layers of petals resemble a semi-sphere.
4. Repeat the above steps to make another semi-sphere of petals
5. Spread fabric glue on the flat bottoms of each semi-sphere and press the two shapes together. Let the glue dry.
6. Thread a sewing needle through to the center of the sphere and then turn the needle around and sew back. Sew the thread on the hair accessory.
