Decorated Fall Cupcake Suggestions For Kids

Cupcakes decorated in brown and orange make a sweet fall treat.

Baking and decorating cupcakes is a great activity for kids at a party because it gives them something to do while providing a treat when they are done. For a fall kids' party, decorate autumn themed cupcakes. Doing the prep work ahead of time and setting up a work area complete with all of the ingredients, tools and supplies the kids will need makes the activity go much more smoothly.

Pumpkin Cupcakes

Bake or purchase pumpkin cupcakes. Frost them with cream cheese or another white frosting. Place a pumpkin shaped piece of Halloween candy or marzipan on top of each frosted cupcake. Use green frosting to pipe curling vines and leaves around the pumpkin candy.

Halloween Cupcakes

Bake chocolate cupcakes and frost them with orange frosting. You can also bake orange carrot or pumpkin cupcakes and frost them with chocolate frosting. Scatter orange and brown sprinkles over the tops of the frosted cupcakes. Decorate the tops with Halloween candy like candy corn, pumpkins, bite-size candy bars and creepy gummy body parts.

Fall Leaves Cupcakes

Prepare cupcakes of any flavor and frost them in autumn colors such as red, orange and yellow. Tear up pieces of fruit leather and arrange them on top of the cupcakes to look like fall leaves. Or make leaves from fondant with a leaf shaped cookie cutter.

Fall Produce

Some specialty food, baking supply and craft stores sell marzipan in a wide variety of fruit and vegetable shapes. Purchase a selection of fall produce such as apples, pears, squash and corn and use them to top cupcakes frosted with fall colors.

Thanksgiving Turkey Cupcakes

Frost any flavor cupcake with chocolate frosting. Build up an extra mound of frosting in the middle for the body of the turkey. Place candy corn around the body to form the tail feathers. Use cake decorating gel to add feet, eyes and a beak.
