Trasform a basic hair clip into a chic fascinator.
Fascinators are "fascinating" hair accessories that are trendy at weddings, the Kentucky Derby and other events that require a fashionable headpiece. The hairpiece is typically worn to the side of the head and contains feathers with other embellishments. Fascinators are available for purchase; however, they can be quite expensive because of the intricate detailing and time it takes to create the chic accessory. Create your own design for a wearable fascinator using simple materials found at craft stores.
Instructions
1. Fold the ribbon in half and cut into two 4-inch sections. Set one half to the side.
2. Snap open the hair clip. Apply hot glue to half of one side of the 4-inch ribbon and insert the half with glue into the open clip. Press the half with glue upward so it attaches to the underside of the top portion of the clip. Hold for a few seconds and release. At this point you will have an open hair clip with half of the ribbon extending out from the opening.
3. Spread glue on the other side of the half of ribbon and fold the ribbon over the top of the clip. Hold for a few seconds to allow the glue to adhere to the clip and other ribbon half. Trim any ribbon that has extended beyond the length of the back of the clip. At this point, the clip is still open and the ribbon is folded over the top portion of the clip. Set the clip aside to dry completely.
4. Work with the other 4-inch ribbon and the feathers. Lay the ribbon down on a flat surface vertically and arrange the stems of the feathers on one half of the ribbon. The tops of the feathers will protrude outward from the top of the ribbon. Glue the feathers to the ribbon half and fold over the other half to secure the feathers inside the ribbon and hide the stems. Clip the exterior of the ribbon with the clothespins to keep the ribbon shut until it is completely dry.
5. Apply embellishments to one side of the feather ribbon. The other side of the feather ribbon half will adhere to the clip. Embellishments may include beading on the ribbon, a large silk flower or gemstones.
6. Adhere the unembellished side of the feather ribbon half to the top of the ribbon on the clip. Allow the fascinator to dry completely before styling on your head.
