Sparrows are part of Arizona's natural habitat.
If you live in Arizona and are interested in birdwatching, there are more than 530 species to observe in the state, according to the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Learning more about these birds also includes becoming familiar with the size, shape and color of the eggs these creatures lay.
Colors
Native Arizona birds lay eggs in an array of colors, and many of the eggs are multi-colored. For instance, the eggs of the Baird's sparrow have brown spots and are a shade of white with a gray tint. Five-striped sparrow eggs are similar in color -- a dull shade of white -- but don't have any spots.
Hatching Amount
Arizona birds lay their eggs in a variety of amounts; the golden eagle lays one to four spotted eggs during the spring season. The great egret lays anywhere between one and six eggs, but the bird usually produces its bluish-green eggs in groups of three; the oval eggs of the short-tailed hawk are lain in pairs.
Incubation
Native Arizona birds incubate their eggs for different periods of time to ensure that the eggs develop correctly. For instance, the Swainson's Hawk has an incubation period of about 35 days; it is primarily the female's job to incubate the bluish-green eggs. The Swainson's Thrush, however, only incubates the eggs for up to 14 days, which are usually produced in groups of four.
