Focal point Suggestions For A Masquerade Ball

Masquerade balls are traditionally extravagant celebrations.

When it comes to decorations for a masquerade ball, cutting corners is out of the question. This is not an occasion that can be planned at the last minute. Attention to detail is crucial; you want your centerpieces to impress your guests and create a night to remember.

Feather Wreath

Look online for unusual feathers.

Create a feather wreath and place a candle in the center for a really simple centerpiece. You will need either real or artificial feathers and a wreath base (such as a straw wreath form), which can be bought from craft stores, party supply stores or from many online retailers (try eBay if you are bulk buying and looking for bargains). To make the wreath, slide the feathers into the straw form at an angle to create the first layer of feathers. Repeat the process, adding as many layers of feathers as you want. If you want to add embellishments to your feather ring, use a hot glue gun to attach beads or ribbon bows. Black, white and silver are popular colors for masquerade ball decorations. A black feather ring with a silver candle is really effective.

Ostrich Feathers

Adding lights to your centerpiece adds to the party mood.

A variation on the feather theme is to arrange ostrich feathers in a slim glass vase. The aim is to create a tall, full arrangement; male winged plumes are considered to be the best quality ostrich feathers and around 35 feathers will give the desired body. Fairy lights can be added for a special touch, either circled around the base of the vase or twisted around the individual plumes. Choose colors to complement or contrast with your existing scheme. If you want a really professional finish and budget is no issue, rent ostrich centerpieces from a company that will come to your venue and set them up for you.

Lighted Masks

Using masks allows you to make really imaginative centerpieces.

The masquerade ball centers around the mask, of course, and this makes a fantastic centerpiece. Attach two masks together (so that it looks the same from all angles) and use a hot glue gun to add feathers to create a lavish head-dress. A tall, slim candle holder with the masks at the top will keep the piece above your guests' line of vision so that it doesn't become an annoying obstruction; choose candle holders designed to be placed on the floor, as these are generally tall. Make sure the base of the candle holder is heavy enough so that the weight of the masks and feathers doesn't make it topple over. To add atmosphere and sparkle to your tables, place LED lights inside the masks.
