Combat Dust In Your House

Remove dust properly to make surfaces shiny again.

Dust makes items in your home appear dirty, but it also can irritate people who suffer from allergies. Dust contains a variety of items including pollen, skin cells and dirt. When dust becomes a problem, it can cause you to become frustrated. Since you cannot completely remove dust from your home, you will need to work on preventing it from building up. Combating dust in your home will help to make your home more hypoallergenic and clean.

Instructions

1. Change the air filters in your home. Air filters generally do not last for more than three months, and they become clogged with dirt and dust. Changing the filter will help remove the dust from your home. Replace the air filter with one that has a higher minimum efficiency reporting value, for best results.

2. Dust your home by working from the top to the bottom. Dusting from the bottom to the top will cause dust to fall back onto the lower surface.

3. Take rugs outdoors to remove dust and debris. Drape the rugs over a clothesline or a fence and then beat them with a broom to remove the dust or shake smaller rugs to remove accumulated dust.

4. Vacuum carpeted floors weekly to remove dust. Focus on the busiest locations and areas behind furniture.

5. Wipe the dust with damp microfiber washcloths instead of feather dusters. Feather dusters will often spread the dust, but damp washcloths will hold onto the dust.

6. Maintain a humidity level between 40 and 50 percent, according to Woman's Day. This humidity level prevents static electricity from forming, which attracts dust.

7. Place entrance mats in front of the doors that you use the most. The mats will help prevent dirt and dust from entering your home.

8. Change your bed sheets weekly. Bedding contains old skin cells. You can also place allergen zipper covers over your bedding and pillows.
