College Theme Ideas

Imaginative theme parties can put partygoers at ease.

Host a college theme party for your friends and new acquaintances. Theme parties provide innovative ways to connect people through the art of fun and good old tomfoolery. These parties can take the pressure off those who are otherwise intimidated by new people and scenes by mixing it up with costumes and games.

Foam Parties

Rent a foam machine for a night of high jinks and laughter. This is not a party to have in a carpeted room filled with furniture. If you don't have linoleum floors, reserve a party hall that allows this particular type of party. Remind your guests to arrive in swimwear and to bring their towels and sense of humor.

ABC Party

Invite friends to an ABC party. Unlike those kindergarten parties, these ABCs stand for "anything but clothes." Challenge your friends to get creative with their costumes. Costume ideas include plastic wrap, duct tape, cardboard boxes and even food items such as marshmallow bikinis. Award the guest with the most outlandish or creative costume with a silly trophy you can pick up at most party supply stores.

Drinking Parties

Get the party started with drinking games.

Purchase large blocks of ice and carve tracks into them for a "luge" party. Use these channels to race shots down to the eager recipients who are waiting at the other end of the "luge course." Or have a "Flip the Cup" party: Ask your guests to divide into two teams, then line up cups of beer on opposite sides of a long table. The twist in this racing game is that teammates must wait until the person in front of them has completely finished drinking her cup of beer as well as the added challenge of placing their cup face down on the edge of the table and flipping it upright. The length of this competitive game keeps the "buzz factor" low while still allowing everyone to have a rowdy time together.

'70s Casino Party

Pass out chips so guests can "gamble" the night away.

Send invitations to guests that include a plastic chip worth $10,000 worth of fake chips when they arrive at the "casino." Set up gambling tables and mini-bars around the room. Have your guests arrive in high roller outfits -- cocktail dresses, feathered boas and stiletto heels for the girls; suits, shades and tacky gold jewelry for the guys. This college theme party allows your friends to enjoy games of poker, roulette, craps and blackjack while getting to know the other students at your school.
