Rockabilly bangs are blunt, thick and fall above the eyebrows.
Rockabilly bangs are a hair style that consists of blunt, thick bangs that are slightly rounded, often appearing sculpted. They are also referred to as "pin-up" bangs because they were a favored style of mid-century pin-up girls. Cutting the bangs is straightforward enough, but precision is key. Botched bangs cannot be fixed overnight. You should take the time to be thoughtful. With thought and proper preparation, the bangs are easy to achieve.
Instructions
1. Use a comb to separate the hair in the front that will fall naturally as bangs. In general, this should be all the hair in the middle of your head from your hairline back about two inches. You should have a fair amount of hair combed forward since rockabilly bangs are so dense. Comb this hair down towards your face and put the rest of your hair in a ponytail to keep it out of the way.
2. Comb the hair straight forward and hold it in the other hand. Use a firm grip but do not pull the hair taut. If you pull the hair tight while you cut it, it will end up shorter than you intended. Working with slightly damp hair might be easier, so run the comb under running water to wet it before combing the hair, if needed.
3. Cut the hair to nose level if you are beginning with long hair so it is easier to work with.
4. Hold the hair firmly so the scissors do not pull it from your hand, but leave enough slack that the bangs are falling as they would without being held. This is where the thoughtfulness is so important. Straighten, comb and re-grip the hair a couple times to make sure the hair is positioned correctly so that you get a nice, straight line.
5. Position the scissors level, just above your eyebrows, so you cut across in a straight line. Cut the bangs slowly, and attempt to do it in one cut. Cutting in multiple cuts may yield choppy results, but can be done if necessary.
6. Discard the cut hair or drop it to be cleaned up later. Shake the bangs and run your fingers through them to make sure the hair is level and blunt. Trim strays or uneveness as necessary.
7. Style the bangs with a small amount of gel, cream or even water to keep them straight, sleek and oriented in the proper direction. Use a hair straightener, curling iron or hair brush to give the bangs a slight curve or curl under at the very ends to make them appear sculpted.
