Parakeets are friendly birds, but they can spook easily and sometimes require a quiet, dark environment to rest and relax. It is important to cover a parakeet cage at night so that the bird can feel safe and protected while sleeping. There are important considerations to make when placing and covering a parakeet cage to provide the best possible environment for the bird.
Instructions
1. Situate the parakeet cage in the proper location. The cage should be located away from heavy traffic in the household, and there should be a wall on at least one or two sides of the cage.
2. Test the cover on the parakeet cage prior to actually needing to use it. The cover should completely cover the cage to prevent as much light as possible from entering. If you cannot completely cover the cage to provide enough darkness and quiet for the bird, other arrangements should be made.
3. Move the cage into a quiet room if you cannot provide enough cover for the parakeet cage. If the room where the parakeet cage is situated is well trafficked at night, or noisy, then you need to be able to move the parakeet into a quieter room so that it can get the undisturbed rest that it needs.
4. Cover the cage completely in the evening hours. You need to provide your parakeet with between 10 and 12 hours of quiet, undisturbed sleeping time every night. The cover should fit tight over the cage while still providing ample space for proper ventilation.
5. Clean the cage cover on a weekly basis as the fabric will accumulate dust from the seeds and feathers in the cage. Always provide your parakeet with a clean cage cover.
