Create A Bride's Bouquet With Roses & Down

Creating a custom bouquet is a fun way to cut costs.

A bride's wedding day should be one of the most memorable events of her life. As such, the bouquet she holds when walking down the aisle and standing at the altar should be perfect--both in construction and appearance. While many of the bouquets available at floral shops or wedding stores may be beautiful, they may be missing a personal or unique touch.

Instructions

1. Strip any excess foliage (thorns, damaged petals) from the group of rose using a stem cutter or sharp knife.

2. Fill one side of your sink with fresh, cool water. Working with about five roses at a time, hold the stems under the water and make angled cuts about two inches from the bottom. Repeat until all the stems have been cut.

3. Add a packet or small bottle of floral preservative to a vase filled halfway with water. Place the roses in the vase and allow them to set for three to four hours.

4. Remove the roses and gently shake the stems dry. Divide the roses into small groups with at least two to five flowers in each. Depending on the number of roses you have, the size of these groups may vary.

5. Place a feather within each group of roses so that it protrudes above the petals. Experiment with the placement of the feathers until you achieve the desired look. Bind each group of stems and the included feather together with a rubber band.

6. Bunch each group together to form the full bouquet. Place the inner groups slightly higher than the outer groups to give the bouquet an appealing dome shape.

7. Wrap the stems with floral tape, starting from the bottom of the bouquet. Use firm pressure when wrapping to ensure that the bouquet is tightly bound.

8. Secure the end of your decorative ribbon to the bottom of the bouquet using a hot glue gun. Wrap the taped stems in a consistent overlapping fashion until you reach the heads of the flowers.

9. Cut the ribbon and secure it to one of the taped stems with a small, discreet dot of hot glue. Alternatively, you can attach an additional length of ribbon near the top of the bouquet and tie a bow.
