Try simple crafts for inexpensive fun.
Kids' crafts are a staple for almost any organization. Kids make crafts at school, church, after school care, camps, classes and at home. Some crafts are expensive and require a large amount of supplies. However, most kids will be satisfied with crafts that are inexpensive to complete and simple to create.
Bottle Stamp Gift Bags
Spread out several plain gift bags onto a table. Give one gift bag to each child, or if you complete the craft with only one child, allow her to decorate several bags. Place one wet sponge onto a washable plate for each desired color. Squeeze a generous amount of paint onto each sponge. Press the bottom of a plastic bottle onto the sponges. Stamp the bottle design onto the bags. Allow the paint to dry, then decorate the other side of the bag.
Toilet Tube Turkey
Strip the tube of all remaining toilet paper pieces. Cover the tube with glue and cover the tube with brown paper. Cut the paper to fit evenly around the tube. Cut out seven feathers from brightly colored construction paper. Glue the feathers in a fan pattern to the back of the toilet paper tube. Cut out two feet from orange construction paper and glue them to the bottom of the tube. Cut a circle from brown paper and glue it to the top of the tube for a face. Add tiny paper eyes and an orange paper beak to the face to complete the turkey.
Bird Feeder
Cut a string about 1 foot long and tie it in a loop around the top of a pinecone. If necessary, secure the string with fast-drying glue. Spread peanut butter between the sections of the pinecone. Add a liberal amount of peanut butter to provide the birds with plenty of food. Roll the pinecone in a plate full of birdseed to coat the pinecone with the seeds. Wrap the feeder in aluminum foil or plastic wrap to transport the feeder from the craft area to the child's home, then remove it before hanging the bird feeder in a tree.
Salt Painting
Pour some salt into several different plastic zipper bags. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bag. Roll the salt around in the bag to distribute the color. Spread the salt on pieces of newspaper to dry. Once it's dry, transfer the salt to a small jar. Fill the jar with different layers of salt to create a salt painting inside the jar. Melt some paraffin wax and pour a thin layer of wax over the top of the salt. This prevents the colors from mixing. Wait for the wax to dry, then place the lid on the jar.
