Hands & Ft Art Activities Related To Small children

Let your toddler make handprint art to show the family.

If you are in need of craft ideas that you can make with your toddler, consider using your toddler's hands and feet to create personalized works of art. By adding a thin coat of paint to your toddler's hands and feet, you can have your child make footprints and handprints on different craft materials. You can also use clay to make memories with your toddler. When finished, give the art away as gifts or hang it up in your home.

Holiday Art

To celebrate a holiday, you and your toddler can make holiday-themed hands and feet artwork. To make a turkey, have your toddler stand wearing shoes on a piece of brown construction paper and trace around her shoes. Next trace your toddler's hands on each of the following colors of construction paper: red, orange and yellow. Cut out the paper feet and glue the heels together. The heels form the head of the turkey, and the feet form the turkey's body. To make the turkey's feathers, cut out the orange, yellow and red paper hands and glue them to the turkey's back so that they fan out around the turkey's body. Cut out an orange wattle and beak out of construction paper and glue them on the turkey's face. Cut out legs from orange construction paper and glue them on the turkey. Add googly eyes to the turkey's face.

Personalized Gifts

For a relative's birthday, you can create a gift for that person. Purchase a blank canvas apron and lay it out on a table covered in newspaper. Paint your toddler's hands with acrylic paint and then stamp his hands on the front of the apron to make a handprint. You can paint your toddler's feet and stamp footprints on the apron as well. Instead of an apron, you can have your toddler make make handprints and footprints on a plain white T-shirt.

Flowers

Make flower art. Trace your child's hands on a piece of colored construction paper and cut them out. Trace your child's feet on a different colored construction paper and cut them out. Draw a shape of a vase on another color of construction paper and cut it out. Cut four long strips of green construction paper to create stems. Glue the bottom of the stems to the backside of the top of the vase. Glue a hand or a foot at the top of each green stem to form a flower. Your child can decorate the vase and flowers with markers.

Memories

As your toddler ages, you will want to mark the changes in her growth. Purchase clay, such as Crayola Air-Dry Clay and roll flat pieces of it with a rolling pin and press your child's hand or foot into the clay. At the bottom or top of the clay piece, use a pointed tool to write the name of your child and the date. Let the clay dry and then have your child paint it with acrylic paints.
