When you make hair bows, you can add various embellishments to personalize your work. A significant part of the craft's appeal is how open each bow is to customization. All hair bows require the same basic assembly regardless of what embellishment you add to the project. Even though you are adding feathers to the bow, you will assemble it the same way you make standard hair bows.
Instructions
1. Cut a piece of thread 24 inches long. Thread the needle. Double the thread and tie a knot at the end. Set it aside.
2. Trim the ends of each ribbon into a forked, inverted V-shape. Apply no-fray adhesive to the edges.
3. Tie the 12-inch ribbon as you would tie your shoelaces. Cross one end of the ribbon over the other. Wrap it under and then up through the loop it just created. Pull the ribbon tight. Form a loop on the left side. Wrap the other piece loosely around the base of the loop. Pull it around and through the wrapped portion. Form another loop as you pull it through. Pull all of the loops and ends to make all of the sections equal in length. This piece will be the top of the bow. Set it aside.
4. Cross the 5-inch pieces of grosgrain like an X in your hand.
5. Run the threaded needle from the bottom through the center. Stitch through the ribbon again to return to the underside.
6. Place the bow on top of the stitched ribbon. Run the needle through the center of the crossed ribbons and bow to stitch all of the pieces together. Wrap the thread around the center of the bow twice.
7. Center the marabou feathers on top of the bow. Wrap the thread around the center two more times. Tie the thread on the underside of the bow.
8. Apply a drop of hot glue to the bottom of the hair bow in the center. Place one end of the 4-inch ribbon over the hot glue. Wrap the ribbon around the bow. Apply another drop of hot glue to the bottom. Press the end of the ribbon into it.
9. Apply hot glue on the bottom of the bow. Place it on the top of the barrette.
