Hide Bangs

Sometimes bangs get in the way.

Bangs can be stylish, but sometimes they are a hairstyle annoyance that are difficult to grow out. Bangs (or "fringe," as they are called in the United Kingdom) are short pieces of hair that fall onto the forehead. Hairstylists cut bangs to create a prim, edgy or natural look, but some women decide to change to a hairstyle that doesn't include bangs, and they want to hide them as they grow longer. Hide your bangs in a creative, natural-looking style.

Instructions

1. Secure the bangs on top of your head with a clip, bobby pin or barrette. Purchase a few that you can mix and match with different clothes or to add something new each day. Pull the bangs up from your forehead and clip the barrette to hold the hair in place.

2. Flip the bangs to the side. Use a barrette or bobby pin -- depending on the thickness of your hair -- to hold your bangs to the side. Sweep your bangs to the left or right side of your face. If the bangs are shorter, pull all of the hair to the side and clip it above or at the temple. For longer bangs, pull the hair just above the right or left ear and hold it in place with the barrette. Add two or three barrettes or bobby pins to hold the hair in place.

3. Wear a headband. Pick a colorful cloth, plastic, wooden or braided headband. For thicker hair, select a broader headband with a one- or two-inch diameter. For finer hair, select a thinner headband. Place the headband by fitting the ends of the headband behind the ears then with both hands, push back the headband so it smoothes the bangs down.

4. Wear a hat to hide the bangs. Put the hat on at your forehead and sweep back the bangs. Change the hat style every day.

5. Layer your hair and style your bangs to fit the look. Ask your hairstylist to cut your hair with short layers into which you can sweep the bangs. For longer hair, ask the stylist to add long layers to your hair, especially the front pieces. Tuck or clip the bangs into the shorter layers, as if it were another layer.

6. "Feather" the bangs. Ask a hairdresser to "feather" the front pieces of your hair. Feathering thins and layers the front hair pieces so that they gently fall around the face. Tuck the bangs behind your ears or part the bangs to the side to match the feathered layers.
