Feathery hairstyles have been around for decades in different lengths, colors, and styles. Depending on the generation you are from, you may think of the feathered styling of Farrah Fawcett or Katherine Heigel. A feathered hairstyle is a style where your hair appears light like a feather. It is not weighted down or overly done.
Classic Feathered Styles
When thinking of classic feathered hairstyles, think of the upward-swept bangs and the curled edges of hair. While they were achieved with a lot of hairspray and hard work, they created a light, untextured effect. It is not necessarily a natural effect but an effortless off-the-face look.
Short Feathered Styles
Short feathered styles are very similar to non feathered styles, the only difference is the lightness of the hair. Feathered looks are still straightened into going in various directions. However, they are light and airy and do not appear to have much product in them. If gel or hairspray are used, they are used sparingly.
Easy Feathered Styles
Simple feathered styles are layered hair, but, again, with little product used so the hair is light. Feathers seem to float and that effect should be the same that you look for when doing your hair. For example, if you like your hair straight, make sure it is layered and straighten it without using hairspray. This will create an airy hairstyle.
