"Elijah & The Ravens" Crafts For Children

While teaching in a Christian or Jewish school -- or simply educating your children about one of these religions at home -- you may cover the topic of Elijah and the ravens. Engaging the youngsters in craft projects will help to stimulate their learning and to intrigue them more as they explore the subject matter.

Puppets

Have the children create raven puppets. They can glue black feathers, wiggle eyes and yellow construction paper for a nose and feet to a paper bag to make their puppets. You might assign one student to make an Elijah puppet. They could draw the puppet figures on the paper bags as well. Read the story of Elijah and the ravens out loud to the class. Ask them to use their puppets to act out the story as you read.

Handprint Craft

The DLTK Kids website has templates to make a handprint raven. You can print out the templates and have children color in the template pieces, or you can draw your own head, body, claw and tail templates for a raven. Have the students trace their hand twice on a black or white piece of construction paper and cut the pieces out. They should assemble the template pieces together, whether using DLTK's template or your own. The handprints will act as the raven's wings.

God Will Supply All Our Needs

Since "God will supply all our needs" is a theme of the story, write these words on the top of a poster board, as suggested by the Danielle's Place of Crafts and Activities website. Glue a picture of a raven to the top as well. Have students come up to the poster board with markers, crayons, pencils or pens and write down different items that God has given them. Embellish the poster board as desired. Use the poster board as the classroom bulletin board or as a display for an upcoming event at the school.

Dough Craft

The Danielle's Place of Crafts and Activities website suggests making edible ravens. Bring in small chocolate cakes for your students to work with. You could also bring in raw brownie dough for the students to work with, and then bake them later. Have the students use orange colored chips or candy corn to create the raven's nose. They can make the eyes with icing. Have them use two halves of a chocolate wafer to make wings and a wafer cut into a triangular shape for the tail feathers.
