Ordinary cleaning products become creative bridal shower gifts.
Whether you're throwing or attending a bridal shower and whether you're feeling green or just want to save some green, using cleaning products as shower gifts can be surprising and unusual. Although most cleaning products have a designated use in the house, many can do double duty after, before or instead of their intended purposes. Creating gifts out of cleaning supplies is a sure way to "clean up" at the shower.
Scrubbing Up
A quick trip down the aisle of the bathroom products area of a mass merchandiser, home products store or dollar shop can yield a creative bridal shower gift. Pick up inexpensive toilet brushes. Go from bathroom to glitz by spraying handles with glue and shaking a canister of glitter over the handle over an open can or plate to catch the extra speckles. Add rhinestones, marabou feathers and lace for a brush unlike any other. Many toilet brushes come with their own stand, which you can also decorate.
Bright Blooms
A bottle of supermarket brand bleach goes a long way but leaves behind a lot of plastic to recycle. Instead of sending it to the recycling bin, up-cycle it into a bridal shower gift. After completely cleansing the inside of the bottle with hot water (fill and let soak for several minutes, pour out, then fill again), peel off any paper or sticker labels. If the bleach label is painted on, spray paint or paint the bleach bottle white and let dry. Decorate the outside of the bottle with the bridal shower theme, such as pink polka dots or cupcakes, then add a cluster of faux flowers (remnants of bleach may harm fresh flowers) and present the bride with a lasting gift.
Candle Candies
After an air-deodorizing candle burns to the last of its wick, its glass bowl or container is usually destined for the trash or recycling bin, but these cleaning products can turn quickly into sweet bridal shower gifts. In most candle cases, fill the globe with hot water, ensuring any leftover wax, metal and wick are submerged. Let sit, then pry at the wax and wick with the tip of a sharp knife -- it should pop right out. Run the candle through the dishwasher or cleanse by hand and let dry. Fill with bridal-shower themed candies, such as pastel Jordan almonds or candy-coated chocolate pieces. Glue a silk ribbon in one of the wedding colors around the top of the candy holder. Filling the candle jars with wrapped individual candies is another taste-tempting option.
Found Feathers
Only certain members of the bridal party get to carry bouquets, but every attendee at the bridal shower can receive a quick and simple take-home bridal bouquet made out of basic feather dusters. Feather dusters, found in the cleaning supply aisles of supermarkets, dollar stores and mass merchandisers, come in a burst of colors similar to a groom's boutonniere or bride's bouquet. While yellow and rainbow feather dusters are common, brides aren't relegated to that color scheme. Mix a few drops of color dye to match the shower theme into water in a bucket, soak the feather duster and let dry on old towels or newspaper. Make one feather duster bouquet per guest, tying lace and ribbons to the handle.
