Create A Tulle Veil For Any Bridal Shower

A veil distinguishes the guest of honor from the other party guests.

At a bridal shower or bachelorette party, the guests often adorn the bride-to-be with a mock wedding veil. Because they do this in fun rather than formality, the veil is usually shorter and less ornate than a traditional wedding veil; it usually measures 24 inches (blusher length) or 30 inches (elbow length) from crown to hem. However, just because the veil doesn't have crystals or lace doesn't mean that it has to lack pizazz; glam it up a bit by adding a strip of marabou feathers or flowers.

Instructions

1. Fold the netting in half lengthwise and measure the required length for the veil. Round the corners of the hemline to give the veil a smooth appearance.

2. Place the veil's top edge under the sewing machine's presser foot and ease stitch that edge only. Ease stitch by sewing with the widest stitch on your sewing machine and not knotting the beginning or ending stitch.

3. Pull the top threads of the ease-stitched edge to gather the tulle. Pin the gathers in place and sew over the ease stitching to secure the gathers.

4. Place the tulle against the plastic comb. Keep the comb's teeth pointing up and away from the veil and sew the veil to the bridge of the comb with nylon thread. Weave the thread through the comb's teeth and over its bridge.

5. Hold the comb horizontally so that its teeth curve down to the floor with the tulle on top. Pull the tulle back tightly against the comb and pin marabou or flowers to the tulle, if desired. Stitch the embellishments to the bridge of the comb in the same way that you attached the veil. Keep the stitches as close to the bridge as possible so as to not cover the comb's teeth.
