Suggestions For A Bride To Hold Rather Than A Bouquet

Ideas for a Bride to Carry Instead of a Bouquet

The tradition of a bride carrying a bouquet of flowers as she walks down the aisle dates back to ancient times. Romans used to carry herbs and flowers to ward off evil spirits while the Greeks carried flowers as a symbol of their love for their betrothed. Today, brides still practice the tradition, but flowers are not the only thing that can be held. If you are looking for an alternative, consider carrying something that is meaningful to you or something that ties into the theme of your wedding.

A Bible

If you are having a Christian wedding and have an heirloom bible, this would be a great alternative to carry down the aisle. This will show your commitment to your faith and your love for your family. An heirloom bible can also count as your "something old."

Something Blue

Your bouquet can represent your "something blue" and it doesn't have to be flowers. Consider draping blue beads around your hands. A blue handbag fulfills the something blue role and is functional. For a fun and playful look, make a bouquet of origami paper flowers.

Seashells

The beach is a very popular theme for a wedding. This theme brings a laidback and elegant look to a wedding. For your "bouquet", carry an arrangement of seashells. Collect seashells from a beach or purchase them from a craft store and have them assembled to represent a bouquet. You can also carry a basket filled with the shells

A Horseshoe

If you have Irish heritage and want to represent your heritage in your wedding, carry a horseshoe in lieu of flowers. In Ireland, the horseshoe is a symbol of good luck. Brides used to carry a real horseshoe down the aisle to bring luck to their marriage. Today, you can incorporate this tradition with a porcelain horseshoe. The horseshoe can then later be given to your child to carry on her wedding day.

Feathers

For a funky and whimsical look, carry an arrangement of feathers. Purchase feathers from a craft store that correspond with your wedding colors and arrange them in a fashion that is comfortable for you to carry. They will have great movement as you walk down the aisle.

Candy

If you have a sweet tooth, show your love for candy as you walk down the aisle. Purchase an assortment of your favorite candies and assemble them into a bouquet. This is a fun way to show off your personality and bring color to the wedding.

A Candle

To set a romantic mood, let a candle light your way to your husband. Carry a single lit candle or a lantern as you walk down the aisle. If you choose a single lit candle, this can also be used to light a unity candle, if you have one.
