You can modify paper doilies to create cupcake liners.
Cupcake creation and presentation has become high art. Manufacturers generally make cupcake liners for baking and presentation. However, some cups are only suitable for decorative purposes and are, therefore, strictly used in presentation. Among this category of paper goods are laser cut cupcake wrappers. Laser cut cupcake wrappers are incredibly detailed and often resemble lace. They are also expensive, averaging around one dollar per cup. While you may not have the means to create paper goods with lasers, you can create the same aesthetic with similar resources. Doilies and some craft paper are also embellished by laser cutting, and are cheaper to purchase than laser cut cupcake wrappers.
Instructions
1. Measure one-eighth or one-quarter inch up from the bottom of the wrapper with the ruler. Mark it with a pencil.
2. Cut around the wrapper leaving a cup that rises to an even one-eighth or one-quarter inch around the side.
3. Keep the ring you cut away intact, except for one cut down the side making the ring a curved band.
4. Lay the band on the lacy edge of a doily and line up the top of the cupcake wrapper with the outer edge of the doily.
5. Mark the outline of the curved band lightly with a pencil.
6. Cut out the same shape on the doily.
7. Apply light dabs of glue with a paintbrush to the outside edge on the cupcake wrapper.
8. Line up cut edge of the doily band and wrap it around to make new sides of the liner, pressing it into the glue.
9. Apply glue in the same manner to the ends of the band. Press them together to bond them.
10. Allow the glue to fully dry before using the liners, approximately 10 minutes.
